The only time I get to go home is when I'm working and this past week was no different. With my job at Magnum Companies in Atlanta we got hired by the designer Tony Brewer and Co. to provide the lighting, sound, power and production support for the reception party of the New Hermes Store in Charlotte.
I along with 3 of my freelance lighting technicians left on Monday and started installing in a 40x110 tent on Tuesday. Our job included highlighitng bars and food stations. Hanging 3 of Magnums 4' crystal chandeliers and illumination of the grounds and gardens.
The first day was fairly straight forward and painless. The next day we worked along side the decorators, performers and end client to finsih up the work. I ran 1500 feet of 4/0 feeder cable from a generator thru the gardens up to the tent. This supplied the power for all our lighting and heaters for the tent.
A good friend of mine Matt showed up on Thursday to serve as audio engineer for the French Ballet company that Hermes had as entertainment. Along with a very talented piano player.
The party went well everyone had a "big" time. My crew came back at 11:30 and struk the lighitng from the tent. On Friday we all showed back up and coiled cables, packed the truck and drove back to Atlanta.
This is one week in the life of a production lighting designer
